So here i sat waiting for a tutorial lecturer and this coursemate of mine, a girl i have never spoken to(since first year) comes and says ,"please shift for me" , i looked left and right ,had to be sure it was me she was talking to ,didnt want any of those embarrassing moments when u respond to a conversation not meant for you and have an afterward embarrassing like awkwardness to deal with.
And i quitely shifted whilst saying "morning" under my breath .
"good morning" she replied , and i put my earpiece back on ,eventhough no music played, checking her out with my side eye , she had to be up to something ,skipping all the free sits and coming to have to say "shift for me" .
And then she cleared her throat , and i turned to her (forgetting i had an earpiece on,and wouldn't have noticed that with the music,lets just ThankGod everyone isnt as observant as i am😁)
"Collin right?" she started , in my mind i screamed "obviously!!!!!" ,but my lips ironically mumbled "sure" 🙄
" i have never heard you speak before ,why so quiet " and i paused ,she definitely had hit a cord ,the quiet part ,it wouldnt be the first time but the way this one happened ,it had happened before ,in secondary secondary school , but uhmm lets say different scenerio .
I sat chattering ,shouting ontop my voice ,earning my "papa noise" title legitly ,proving how undisputed i was in that challenge , and this sister came and sat beside me .
"collin you are too noisy she said , for a guy" ,and ofcourse my fans ate her raw
"wont you leave him!!!, is it your noise!!😁😁" .
I had forgotten that encounter until this morning ,and the concept of changing standards and never being able to please people became rather clear .
Quietening down was quite intentional ,being a quite boy and aspiring to get "you are quite" was an effortless challenge i gave myself particularly inspired by the quite folks i had in my class then in sec school ,i liked when they got the quite talk ,wanted to feel what it was like and now i do ,even though im still very noisy inside my head ,you all need to hear me argue and quarell with myself in my head😂.
So yeah, you can change your standards anytime you want ,suit yourself ,everyone else does it this days .
